Founded in 2016, Farida Girls Foundation (FGF) began as a localized response to the intense hardships and unique challenges faced by vulnerable women and girls in Nairobi’s informal settlements. Rooted firmly in a human-centered, community-driven approach, our journey over the past ten years has focused on a powerful truth: that real, sustainable change begins by transforming deep-seated attitudes and expanding access to knowledge.
By establishing safe, inclusive spaces, we have consistently worked to empower adolescent girls and young women with the skills, platforms, and confidence needed to advocate for their reproductive rights and claim active leadership roles in governance and policymaking. We continue to march forward toward a world where every young person possesses full autonomy over their health, choices, and future.

The Farida Girls Foundation (FGF) is a women's rights organization founded in 2016. It is dedicated to empowering women and girls to actively participate in governance, leadership, policymaking, and decision-making, as well as advocating for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).
FGF currently focuses its direct operations within the informal settlements of Nairobi, specifically in Mathare Sub-County. The organization also has strategic partnerships that extend its reach to other informal settlements, including Kibera, Mukuru, and Korogocho.
The Pad Bank is a first-of-its-kind initiative established by FGF in the Mathare informal settlement. It ensures that adolescent girls and young women receive essential sanitary towels at least once a month. This innovation provides consistent access to menstrual hygiene products, directly enhancing dignity and reducing school absenteeism during menstruation.
FGF runs dedicated FGF Clubs that use music, dance, singing, and theater to nurture creative talents, build critical life skills, and open up economic opportunities for youth.
Music & Singing: Workshops cover foundational instrument training and songwriting , while vocal classes build confidence and help girls overcome stage fright.
Dance: Weekly tap, modern, and traditional African dance sessions are hosted at Brilliant Primary School and Caso Upendo Primary to foster teamwork and emotional well-being.
Arts for Advocacy: Participants create songs, dances, and theater projects to convey reproductive health messages and challenge harmful societal norms.
FGF has achieved several notable community and international milestones:
Successfully reached over 8,000 girls across informal settlements with dignity packs (sanitary towels, soap, and underwear).
Provided comprehensive sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) education and life skills training to more than 3,000 girls.
Received a donation of sanitary towels valued at Kshs. 100,000 as a selected beneficiary of Safaricom's Ndoto Zetu Initiative .
Honored internationally with the prestigious Sheikh Hasina Youth Volunteer Award for exceptional volunteer leadership and youth empowerment during the COVID-19 pandemic .
